Analyses of three-dimensional features of isolated AuNPs by stereo TEM reveal true shapes of the particles. Images of triangle (A), pentagon (D) and hexagon (G) captured at +5° have different shading patterns in their respective images captured at −5° (B,E,H) identifying them as tetrahedron (C), pentagon (F) and pentagonal prism (I). Images of two-sided pentagonal pyramids at +45° (J,M), 0° (K,N) and −45° (L,O) illustrate how the particles can be identified as rhomboids in regular TEM. Arrows indicate the particles under observation.
