A major adverse event is defined as an organ space SSI, sepsis, septic shock, acute renal failure, stroke/cerebrovascular accident, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation, time on ventilator greater than 48 hours, hospitalization greater than 30 days, or death. A minor adverse event is defined as a wound disruption, deep incisional SSI, urinary tract infection, pneumonia, deep venous thrombosis/thrombophlebitis requiring therapy, and pulmonary embolus.
