A, B, Repulsive perceptual shift away from the adapter in responses of two monkey subjects for stimuli from 0° to 90°. The y-axis indicates the probability of categorizing test stimuli (x-axis) as >45° group. The rightward shift of psychometric curves after front-adaptation and their leftward shift after profile-adaptation compared with no adaptation indicates the repulsive perceptual shift attributable to adaptation. The same trend was also observed in seven human subjects performing the same task (C). Error bars indicate 1 SE.
