CSF is depicted as triangular inset on the right lower half of the panels. In contrast to a healthy control that only shows some unspecific staining to Purkinje cells due to tissue fixation optimized for detection of surface antigens (A), sera of patients 2 and 3 show distinct staining of the granular and molecular layers (B–D). Binding of CSF antibodies to the cerebellum can only be shown in patient 2 and increases during the course of disease (B and D), not in the healthy control (A) or patient 3 (C). Bar = 100 µm.
