Summary of the findings following the ChAT and parvalbumin immunostaining shows that there was a significant loss of cells in the NBM of ACh-NBM-lesioned rats compared to sham-lesioned rats. There were no group differences in the number of ChAT-immunoreactive cells in the MS/VDB and in the HDB, and no differences in the number of parvalbumin-immunoreactive cells in the NBM.

*Indicates significant difference at p < 0.05.
