Tempol reduces fungal burden and improves fitness of mice at day 1 p.i. (A) C. albicans CFU from kidneys of mice infected i.v. with 2.6 × 106 cells/ml of C. albicans are shown. Mice were injected i.p. with tempol in PBS (1.6 mg/g of mouse/day) or with PBS only. Tempol treatment reduced the fungal burden of kidneys. (B) Blood glucose was reduced in sham-treated mice when compared to uninfected mice, suggesting improper nutrition of affected animals.
