Red flags that may prompt urgent referral

Stridor: this warrants same-day referral to the on-call ENT team. Thyroid lumps in tandem with cervical or supraclavicular lymphadenopathy. Unexplained hoarseness or change in voice. Sudden onset of a rapidly expanding painless thyroid mass (significant increase in size over days and weeks).
