Colon microbiota functional analysis. Predictive functional analysis using PICRUSt with Kyoto Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) revealed colon microbiota-derived pathways that were differently regulated in the offspring born to mothers fed high-fat versus normal diet, both at 1 (A) and 6 months of age (B). The identified pathways are implicated in metabolism, genetic information processing, environmental information processing, cell motility, endocrine and nervous system and human diseases, and drug development. Pathways with a relative fold-change >10% and a significant difference (p < 0.05) between NDm and HFDm offspring in the Wilcoxon-rank test are shown.
