Severely decomposed beaked whale stranded in Kitami, Hokkaido on 4 June 2008. (A) The relatively shorter beak indicates it is not B. bairdii (photo taken by Mari Kobayashi), (B) although the blow hole shape indicates it belongs to Berardius (photo taken by Mari Kobayashi). (C) The general body shape is that of typical ziphiid species. When compared with adult B. bairdii, this specimen is more spindle-shaped.
