Footshock did not increase glutamate levels in the substantia nigra, and perfusions of α-helical CRF into this region had no effect on footshock-induced reinstatement of cocaine seeking. Basal glutamate levels were 1726 ± 430 nm in this region. Perfusions of α-helical CRF (A, 1 μm; B, 10 μm) had no effect on basal glutamate levels (n = 6 per group). *p < 0.05, significant differences from the other experimental conditions.
