Effects of the location of the axon on the shape of the EPSP. Increasing the distance of the axon from the soma causes attenuation of the contralateral (Contra) EPSP (A) and amplification of the ipsilateral (Ipsi) EPSP (B), which is maximal for the 75 μm location. The vertical dashed lines indicate the peak position of the EPSP when the axon was at the center of the soma. Input parameter values are listed in Table 2 (for 500-Hz). The asterisks mark the location of the axon used in the simulations shown in Figures 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10, 11, 12.
