Hypertonicity-induced neurotransmitter release from the heterologous synapses. A, Representative whole-cell patch-clamp recordings showing hypertonic sucrose-induced vesicular release manifested by a fast peak and a lower plateau phase. During these recordings, 1 μm TTX was present throughout the experiments. B, Total charge transfer achieved during sucrose perfusion was significantly higher in neurons (n = 5) with respect to SynCAM (n = 5) or NL1 (n = 5) responses (neuron vs NL1, p = 0.008; neuron vs SynCAM, p = 0.008).
