NT-3 only affected survival when it was added to the culture media at the time of cell plating. a, Neuronal counts were made from control, 5 ng/ml 0 d, vehicle, and 5 ng/ml 3 d cultures immunostained with anti-TuJ1 (neuron-specific β-tubulin). Only when the NT-3 was added immediately to the culture dishes was neuronal survival significantly enhanced (control vs 5 ng/ml 0 d).
