The blockade of the GPe suppressed the inhibition of GPi neurons evoked by STN stimulation. Before GPi recording, a mixture of NBQX, CPP, and gabazine (0.5 mm each; 0.6 μl) was injected into the GPe to block STN stimulation-induced responses in that nucleus. A, Single stimulation (stim.) of the STN evoked a short-duration, short-latency excitation. B, STN-BHFS evoked short-latency excitations. stim., Stimulation. C, Local application of the NBQX/CPP mixture greatly suppressed the excitation during BHFS. The PSTH in A was constructed with 1 ms bins, and those in B and C were constructed with 4 ms bins.
