Administration of e-rhHsp70 in ovo prevents naturally occurring motoneuron programmed cell death. Chick embryos were treated with recombinant Hsp70 at indicated doses on E6 and E7. Embryos were killed on E7.5. After tissue fixation and processing, healthy motoneurons were counted. Embryos treated with both 10 and 25 μg of recombinant protein had significantly greater numbers of healthy motoneurons compared with control and 5-μg-Hsp70-treated embryos. There was no statistical difference between the 10- and 25-μg-treated animals. Statistical significance was determined by ANOVA followed by Tukey-Kramer post hoc test. *p ≤ 0.05; **p ≤ 0.01.
