Proliferation of retinal precursors in WT and Irs2^-/- retina. BrdU (100 μg/g of body weight) was injected into pregnant mice at E12. Six hours later, the mice were killed, and embryos were collected. The genotype of embryos was identified by PCR. Adjacent sections were stained with 1% toludine blue (a, b; original magnification, 40×), or immunofluorescent staining using anti-BrdU antibody was performed (c, d; original magnification, 80×). BrdU-labeled cells were counted per area using the Improvision OpenLab software (4 embryos per genotype). NBL, Neuroblast layer.
