Saturated lipids, shown in reddish colors, segregate with cholesterol to form a domain that structurally resembles the liquid-ordered phase. Glycolipids, GPI-anchored proteins, and lipidated proteins partition preferably into this domain, while many other membrane proteins reside in the regions outside the rafts, resembling a liquid-disordered phase.
