VIP scores indicate the relative influence of the corresponding metabolites on the discrimination between the two conditions (with and without H2O2) for both analytical techniques. Ratios S (in the presence of H2O2)/R (in the absence of H2O2) were determined from relative intensities in profiles at 50 min. Classes and scores are according to Sumner et al.59,60.

*Under our analytical conditions, Trehalose/Cellobiose and Trehalose 6-P/Cellobiose 6-P were not differentiated.
