Representative autoradiograms of GR mRNA in situ hybridization in brain sections from GR-i and wild-type mice. Comparison between stressed and unstressed animals. Brain sections (20 μm) were prepared from mice decapitated between 9.00 and 10.00 A.M. on the day immediately after a 4 week exposure to mild stress or nonstress conditions. Sections at the level of the DRN, cerebral cortex, and hippocampus were labeled by [35S]UTP antisense RNA probe specific to mouse GR mRNA sequence. Similar autoradiograms were obtained from four to five mice per group. CA1, CA1 area of Ammon's horn; Cx, cerebral cortex; Ent. Cx, entorhinal cortex; MRN, median raphe nucleus; Sup. Coll., superior colliculi.
