Mean preference ratios for bitter (denatonium benzoate and quinine sulfate) and sweet (SC45647 and sucrose) compounds from 48 hr two-bottle preference tests (tastant vs water). Four strains were compared: gus-/- single KO (▵; n = 8), trans-/- single KO (○; n = 12), gus-/- trans -/- double KO (▾; n = 11), and doubly heterozygous littermates (WT controls; ▪; n = 10). gus-/- single KO and gus-/- trans -/- double KO mice showed diminished response for all four compounds; trans-/- single KO mice did not differ from WT littermate controls for any of these compounds.
