Table 2.

Brain region-specific effects of TTX and VP antagonist administration on plasma glucose and plasma corticosterone concentrations

Radial distancea

TTX

VP antagonist
SCN-PVN 1.8 mm Brain area p = 0.024 (glucose)
Interaction p = 0.088
PVN-DMH 1.5 mm Brain area p = 0.009 (glucose) p = 0.005 (glucose)
Interaction p = 0.024 p = 0.011
DMH-VMHb 0.6 mm Brain area p = 0.055 (glucose) p = 0.408 (corticosterone)

Interaction
p = 0.039
p = 0.006

p values indicate the result of a two-way ANOVA with time as the within-animal factor and brain area as the between-animal factor.

a

The radial distance is calculated from the difference between the stereotactic coordinates shown in Table 1. SCN coordinates were adapted to the flat skull position as used for the other brain areas.

b

The corticosterone data for the DMH-VMH comparison are derived from the study by Kalsbeek et al. (1996).
