Effect of rolipram treatment on pCREB expression in newborn neurons in the SGZ of the adult hippocampus. Sections were subjected to triple-immunostaining for pCREB, TUC-2, and BrdU after vehicle and rolipram treatment for 3, 7, or 14 d as indicated. The percentage of newborn cells that are pCREB positive is presented as the mean ± SEM (n = 6 animals per group). Rolipram treatment for 3 or 7 d significantly increased the percentage of pCREB cells within or adjacent to the SGZ compared with vehicle treatment. There was no significant difference after 14 d of rolipram treatment (*p < 0.01 as compared with the vehicle on each day).
