Data show Egr-1 mRNA expression in comparable areas of the NAc shell, the dorsal (Dor CPu) or lateral (Lat CPu) region of the striatum, and the anterior CgCx from rats given microinjections of 2 nmol of CNP, 2 nmol of KT5823, or vehicle into the hemi-CPu. Fifteen minutes later, rats were given intraperitoneal injections of cocaine (20 mg/kg) and killed 45 min afterward. The results are expressed as kilobecquerels per gram of tissue, as means ± SD (n = 12 sections from 3 animals). * or #p < 0.05 and *** or ###p < 0.001. Asterisks indicate significance levels when comparing CNP versus the vehicle group; # indicates significance when comparing CNP plus KT5823 versus CNP treatment (ANOVA, followed by Student-Newman-Keuls multiple comparisons test).
