Developmental regulation of the expression patterns in the PGN. Horizontal sections of P0, P7, and P16 LGN were stained with either anti-Islet1 antibody, ferret enkephalinase probe, or cadherin7 probe. The expression of Islet1 was evident as early as P0 and stable until adulthood (data not shown). Enkephalinase was first detectable at P7, and its expression was sustained until adulthood (data not shown). In contrast, following an initially diffuse pattern of expression, the expression of cadherin7 in the LGN gradually decreased, whereas that in the PGN increased. Conventions are as in Figure 3.
