Amyloid PET/CT – appropriate and inappropriate indications

APPROPRIATE INAPPROPRIATE
  • Persistent or progressive unexplained MCI

  • Probable clinical AD and typical age of onset

  • Possible AD but unclear clinical presentation (atypical clinical course or an aetiologically mixed presentation)

  • To determine the severity of dementia

  • Early onset progressive dementia (usually defined as ≤65 years)

  • Asymptomatic patients with a family history of AD

  • Asymptomatic patients shown to carry the ԑ4 allele of apolipoprotein E

  • Cognitive complaint not confirmed on clinical examination

  • In lieu of genotyping for suspected autosomal mutation carriers

  • For non-medical reasons
