An illustration of our hypothesis that OPFR interact with ERα and/or PPARγ in arcuate POMC and NPY/AgRP neurons to control expression of hormone receptors and cation channels to alter release of α-MSH, NPY, and AgRP on downstream targets in the paraventricular hypothalamus, leading to a decrease in food intake or an increase in energy expenditure.
