Mossy fiber sprouting in CA3 and dentate gyrus subfields by Timm staining. Developmental seizures significantly increased the Timm particle scores in the hippocampal CA3 and DG subfields of rats in SE, SE + ZD, and SE + ZS groups compared to corresponding Control, ZD and ZS groups, respectively. Moreover, the Timm particle scores were significantly higher in SE + ZD group compared to the SE group. Further, Timm particle scores were significantly lower in the SE + ZS group than in the SE group (one-way ANOVA with post hoc tests, P < 0.05, compared to Control group, #P < 0.05 compared to ZD group, ΔP < 0.05 compared to ZS group, a P < 0.05 compared to SE group, n = 4/group).
