Subcellular distribution of phosphoinositides. PIPs confer a unique molecular identity to the membranes of organelles and endocytic compartments, which direct membrane and protein traffic throughout the cell. This figure shows the major pools of PIPs in each compartment but does not exclude that these PIPs are present in other compartments in lower abundance.
