Time course of the effects of ethanol withdrawal on the abundance of GABAA receptor subunit mRNAs in hippocampal cells. Cells were incubated first for 5 d with 100 mm ethanol and then for the indicated times in ethanol-free medium. The amounts of GABAA receptor α1 (A), α2 (B), α3 (C), α4 (D), α5 (E), γ2L (F), and γ2S (G) subunit mRNAs were then determined by RNase protection assay.
