Experimental Procedure in Experiment 1. On day 1, participants viewed a ‘trauma film’ comprising 20 clips, each with a duration of 30 sec. Immediately following encoding, participants either received a period of wakeful rest (N = 21) or a vigilance (0-back) task (N = 19). In the week following encoding, participants kept a diary of clip-related spontaneous memories. On day 8, participants return for a recognition memory task.
