GABAergic and Dopaminergic cells in the SNr have different electrophysiological properties. (A) Step recordings of voltage as a response to current injection from −200 to 250 pA (50 pA increments). Low firing rate and a prominent I_h current in dopaminergic neurons (Ai) and high firing rate and a small or no I_h current in GABAergic neurons (Aii). (B) Spontaneous activity. Low firing rate of dopaminergic neurons (Bi) and high firing rate of GABAergic neurons (Bii).
