Figure 6

The effect of silver (AgNPs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) stabilized with cysteine (CYS) or glutathione (GSH), Ag+ and Au3+ ions on (a) total DNA damage and (b) DNA double-stranded breaks (white columns), the activation of ATM (grey columns) and H2A.X (striped columns) in L929 cells after 24 h exposure, measured with MuseTM Multi-Color DNA Damage Kit. Negative controls (Neg) were untreated cells, while positive controls (pos) were cells treated with DMSO. The results are expressed as the percentage of negative controls and given as mean values obtained from three independent experiments. Standard deviations are presented as scale bars. The values marked with an asterisk (*) differ significantly from the negative control (P < 0.05).
