Caspase inhibition prevents dendritic injury in gp120 transgenic mice. The volume of cortical neuropil occupied by MAP-2-labeled processes was reduced in animals expressing the HIV/gp120 transgene. Coexpression of the Casp-1/C285G and gp120 transgenes resulted in cortical dendritic volumes that did not differ significantly from wild-type mice or Casp-1/C285G transgenic mice alone (*p < 0.0001; n = 5 per genotype).
