Activation of PKC opposes the respiratory depression caused by the 5-HT2A blockade. Integrated PBC activity (top traces) simultaneously recorded with an inspiratory neuron (bottom traces) under control conditions and after the application of piperidine (A) and in the presence of PMA (B) is shown. Note that the PKC activator abolished the depression in population activity and the discharge pattern of the inspiratory neuron produced by piperidine (B).
