Cyclin B1/CDK1 relocates to mitochondria during G2/M phase to phosphorylate and activate an array of substrates including multiple subunits of mitochondrial CI to enhance mitochondrial function and energy production which drives energy-sensitive G2/M transition. In addition, cyclin B1/CDK1 activates p53, MnSOD, and SIRT3 to eliminate ROS and protect and maintain mitochondrial homeostasis.
