Effect of calcium channel blockers on cell proliferation induced by serum. Osteoblasts were cultured for 24 h (□) or 48 h () in DMEM‐F12 supplemented with 10% FBS and increasing concentrations of (a) verapamil, (b) nifedipine (c) 2‐APB (d) SKF‐96365 or vehicle alone (control). Cell proliferation was determined by MTT assay and data are the mean ± SEM of the percentage of cell proliferation from three to six independent experiments (anova; P < 0.001, Dunnett's t‐test; ^a P < 0.05; ^b P < 0.01; ^c P < 0.001 compared to control for the same incubation period).
