Scanning electron microscopy images of MDR-ZJ06 wild-type, mutants, and plasmid-complemented strains (see Materials and Methods). Scale bars are 5 μm on the left and 1 μm on the right. MDR-ZJ06 had a symmetrical and regular rod shape, while the gnaA interruption or deletion strain looked smaller, bent, and reniform; the gnaA plasmid complement strain displayed a larger and more symmetrical morphology.
