Comparing the behavior of α2A-AR-KO and α2C-AR-KO mice after a 2.5 min preswim reveals complementary roles of these α2-AR subtypes in the forced swim test. Data from Figure 1 are combined with data from Sallinen et al. (1999). The loss of the α2C-AR has an anti-immobility effect, although the loss of the α2A-AR has the opposite effect, suggesting that the α2A-AR is protective against the depression-related responses measured here, whereas the α2C-AR mediates susceptibility.
