Fast depression induced by anti-synapsin antibody injection depends on the release probability. Trains of 10 Hz were elicited in the presence of low (Ca/Mg = 0.14), normal (Ca/Mg = 0.42), or high (Ca/Mg = 2.1) Ca2+-containing medium. Mean amplitudes of IPSCs evoked by the 10 Hz stimulation of noninjected (open bars) and G423-injected (filled bars) neurons were determined as described in Materials and Methods, under the various conditions, 410–550 min after the time of antibody injection. Means (±SEM) were calculated from three independent experiments performed under each condition. Significance of the differences in the responses to 10 Hz trains between antibody-injected and control, noninjected neurons was as follows: Ca/Mg = 0.14: non-significant (ns); Ca/Mg = 0.42 or 2.1: **p < 109.
