Countries that form the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati (Gilbert, Phoenix and Line Islands), Republic of the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea (PG), Solomon Islands and Tuvalu) and the three defined beaching areas (north, southwest and southeast) are indicated on the map (different shades of grey). Notable beaching cells are displayed as follows: (i) high-density cells (green plus) where beaching events are proportional to dFAD density; (ii) beaching-prone cells (red crosses) with high numbers of beaching events but low local dFAD density; and (iii) beaching-resilient (red squares) cells with low numbers of beaching events and high local dFAD density.
