Interactions supporting breast cancer cell bone homing. Tumor cells use a wide repertoire of molecules to facilitate the first steps of bone colonization. These include CXCR4 interactions with CXCL12; different combinations of integrins (e.g. αvβ3, α5β3, αvβ5, α4β1) that bind to BSP, fibronectin, OPN, and VCAM1; association between RANK and RANKL; and interactions of different adhesion molecules such as E‐cadherin and N‐cadherin.
