Effect of synthetic retinoids on the level of GFRα-1 mRNA in the cultured SCG neurons. SCG neurons were treated with 10−7m RA, Ro 40–6055 (RARα agonist), or Ro 19–0645 (RARβ agonist) in the presence of 40 ng/ml NGF for 4 d. Level of GFRα-1 mRNA was measured by RT-PCR. Eachcolumn represents the mean and range of two independent RNA samples. Note that RA and RARα agonist but not RARβ agonist increased the GFRα-1 mRNA level. This is representative of two independent experiments that gave similar results.
