Cerebellar neurons were cultured with 10 μm CNQX and/or 1 mm MCPG in the medium containing 4 mmKCl except for CNQX plus MCPG plus KCl, which was cultured in the medium containing 20 mm KCl. After 14 DIV, the cells were fixed and immunostained for calbindin D-28K. The Purkinje cell images were obtained using a cooled CCD camera. The maximum dendrite length, number of branch points per longest dendrite or per 100 μm dendrite, and maximum thickness of Purkinje cell dendrite were determined. The results (mean ± SD) were obtained from three independent cultures. n indicates the total number of Purkinje neurons examined. Asterisks indicate the statistically significant differences between the results obtained from control cells and those from treated cells;
