125I-NDP-MSH binding levels in different anatomic regions in rat lumbar spinal cord (L4–L6) cryostat sections. Spinal cords were collected 4 weeks after CCI or sham surgery. Regions were analyzed by sampling the corresponding region of an x-ray film autoradiogram, using a template as depicted in Figure1A. Values were converted to counts per minute using a linear calibration curve. Specific binding within each region was determined by subtracting the mean background value obtained from the dorsal white matter from the same section. For each region, the overall mean of levels L4–L6 from one or two sections was calculated per rat. Data are represented as mean ± SEM of four (sham) or three (CCI) rats. *p < 0.05 versus sham.
