The number of BrdU-positive cells is increased 4 weeks after chronic antidepressant treatment. Rats received BrdU injections 4 d after the last ECS (10 d) or fluoxetine (14 d) treatment and were killed 4 weeks later. The results are the mean ± SEM number of BrdU-positive cells (n = 7 per group). *p < 0.05 significantly different from vehicle control (F(2,18) = 5.8;p < 0.01).
