(A–D) Immunochemical staining of AGC (×100).Pronounced staining is found in lovastatin-treated groups (arrows). However, cells treated with TGF-β1 produce AGC weakly. The T+L group exhibit relatively stronger AGC staining than the T/L group. Group T: 10 ng/mL TGF-β1; group L: 5 M lovastatin; group T+L: simultaneous treatment with 10 ng/mL TGF-β1 and 5 mM lovastatin; and group T/L: sequential treatment with 10 ng/mL TGF-β1 for 72 hours then 5 M lovastatin for 11 days. AGC, aggrecan; TGF-β1, transforming growth factor-beta1.
