Table 2. Metabolic rate and swimming performance of cod and haddock.

Standard metabolic rate (SMR), routine metabolic rate (RMR), swimming-induced maximum metabolic rate (MMRS), swimming-induced aerobic scope (ASS), critical swimming speed (Ucrit), optimal swimming speed (Uopt), and minimum cost of transport (COTmin) for 12 °C-acclimated cod and haddock swimming at 12 °C and 12 °C-acclimated cod swimming at 16 °C. Note that SMR was estimated by extrapolating the M˙O2 vs. swimming speed relationship back to a swimming speed of zero. Metabolic rates scaled to a body mass of 100 g (using a metabolic mass-scaling coefficient of 0.80) are presented in italics in parentheses. Comparisons between groups were made using one-way ANOVAs followed by Holm–Sidak post hoc tests.
