Strains were grown on microtiter plates until stationary phase (50 h), as described in Figure 3. Doubling times were calculated from growth curves using the package “growthcurver” in R (Sprouffske and Wagner, 2016). Final OD600 of pooled triplicates of each culture were determined by spectrophotometer. Spent bacterial samples at time 0 and 50 h were analyzed by HPLC to determine glucose consumption. Biomass yield was calculated as increase in dry weight (DW) per glucose used. Each average and standard deviation is calculated from at least three biological replicates.
