Table 2.
Changes in the distribution of Golgi complex elements after denervation of soleus (SOL) and red gastrocnemius (RG) muscles
SOL: den/ctrl | RG: den/ctrl | ||
---|---|---|---|
GC at fiber surface | Number of GC pixels per 1000 μm2 (n = 12) | 0.5 | 2.5 |
Number of GC pixels around each nucleus (n = 50) | 1.2 | 2.1 | |
GC in fiber core | Number of GC pixels per 1000 μm3 (n = 12) | 0.9 | 2.1 |
Fiber dimensions | Fiber section (μm2) (n = 29) | 0.7 | 0.7 |
Number of nuclei per 100 μm fiber length (n = 12) | 1.2 | 1.0 | |
Volume of fiber per nucleus (μm3) | 0.6 | 0.7 | |
Total GC estimates for a 100-μm-long fiber segment | GC on the surface | 0.4 | 1.4 |
GC in the core | 0.6 | 1.3 | |
Total | 0.5 | 1.6 | |
Total per nucleus | 0.4 | 1.9 |
Twelve Z-series of confocal images, each consisting of eight images, were recorded from fibers of innervated or denervated soleus and red gastrocnemius muscles. Similar measurements and calculations were performed as described in the legend to Table 1, except that instead of measuring the number of GC elements, we measured the total surface of GC pixels. For each muscle, we then calculated the ratio of the value for the denervated compared to the innervated muscle.
