(A) MAS score distribution showed that spasticity was present in 60.6% of individuals with motor complete spinal cord injury (SCI; n = 20), whereas 39.4% did not show spasticity (n = 13). (B) Individual MAS scores showed that within the spastic group, the majority of participants exhibited marked spasticity (MAS = 2, 3, and 4) compared with a slight increase in muscle tone (MAS = 1). This demonstrates the presence of 2 strong subgroups of humans with motor complete SCI: individuals without (MAS = 0) and with marked (MAS = 2, 3, and 4) spasticity.
